collab: Be Safe

The message had come the night before for Clipper. Connor needed his help out in the frontier with some hessians and because it was Clipper he was all too ready to go and help. Duncan had kept him for a night. Just a night.

In the morning, new light streaming in through the window of the third floor apartment that belonged to him Clipper dressed in new clothes. As he grabbed his rifle two hands grabbed him around the shoulders and turned him around. “You forgot somethin’,” Duncan said, his voice still full of morning. Clipper felt something drop around his head.

“You don’t have to,” Clipper said, not looking down at the rosary now sitting above his clothes.

“Nothin’ to do with have to,” Duncan said, “I want to,” and he took Clipper’s face in his hands and kissed him. Clipper left when the kiss was finished, still feeling Duncan’s plea on his lips as he closed the door: please, come back safe to me.
